Range recovery

Get your miles back.

Range loss is often caused by poor charging habits which makes the Battery Management System (BMS) miscalculate projections and leave the battery 'un-balanced'. This causes loss of efficiency, charging capacity, and displays a drifted range estimate every time you charge. This is called Range Drift. When the BMS conflicts with its design directives it becomes protective of the battery to prevent potential failure, and the result is range loss. This can reduce usable charging capacity and reduce usable driving range.

A Balanced Battery Pack Can Access More Actual Charge Than Un-Balanced Packs

Tesla High Voltage (HV) batteries are made with many smaller Panasonic batteries (cells), all of which are perfectly balanced and optimized to deliver maximum power when they are new. These cells are connected as a group to make a Tesla Battery Pack. Usually the packs contain up to 8256 individual battery cells. Over time, those cells drift out of balance, and this causes the battery to lose efficiency and power which cuts your range. When cells drift too far apart from their new state your pack can become unstable. As a defense mechanism the pack has to stop charging or discharging as soon as just 1 of them hits its maximum or minimum charge level. This stops all the cells from charging or discharging correctly and reduces capacity, giving errors which often results in catastrophic range loss or even total battery failure.
